The East London Children's Home, which has been in existence for over 74 years, was situated in the old Malcomess House. We now have 5 houses in East London and each house is run by a dedicated caring Child care worker, who lives in the house with 12 children and her own family. This family set up helps to remove the stigma of a child living in an institution.

The East London Children's Home is a non governmental organisation which caters for the needs of children from all religions and race groups where normal family life has disintegrated due to unfortunate circumstances, such as physical, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect and abandonment. We have 61 children aged from 1 - 18 years.

The East London Children's Home has successfully reunited over 60% of our children into a family unit. Our plans are to expand our service by starting a programme to prevent children being taken into care, by assisting families and communities in need.

A family care centre is being established and the aims of this centre would be:

* to fill the void between children in care and those on the borderline
* to act as a contact point for children returned to their families
* a place where children can come after school to obtain help with homework and life skills
* to help families develop better parenting skills
* to prevent children coming into care

To achieve our plans at the same time, as the Government has reduced our
subsidy, is going to be a challenge. A challenge, with your help I feel we can achieve.
